Interview Jitters Overshadowing your Confidence?

September 11, 2013 by Connie Leave a Comment

Are interview jitters overshadowing your confidence?  Are you confident that you are the right candidate for the job but your nerves are getting the better of you?

Being in an interview can be one of the most stressful and intimidating experiences that you can go through.  There is a tremendous amount of pressure and often times, this is the only chance you will be given to prove yourself.  It’s not always just the answer that hiring managers are looking for.  They also want to see how you handle yourself under pressure.  If you don’t display that you are confident in yourself, they won’t feel confidence in you.  So how do you manage to ensure that your confidence shines through?

  • Know your stuff.  That’s the best way you can build your confidence, and that’s all about being prepared.  Make sure you know what experience examples you are going to use and how they will apply to the specific questions.
  • Research the company to learn as much as you can about them.  I can’t stress this point enough.  The more you know about them and can talk about what they are all about, the more confident and prepared you will sound.  It’s important that you show them how you can benefit their organization.
  • Take part in practice interview sessions.  There is nothing like doing something over and over again to make you feel more relaxed.  And the more relaxed you are, the more confident you will be.  Reach out to people in your social network who are experienced at conducting interviews.  Or utilize the services of a Career Coach to help you with this practice session.  Taking the time now will help you with long term success.

Hiring Managers want to know that you took the time to prepare yourself.  If you do, you will arrive at the interview confident and self assured.
