Workshops
Are you in the job market?
Maybe just out of school and starting your career, or have decided it’s time for a change and are looking for a new job.
Whatever the situation, it will probably involve creating an effective Resume/Cover Letter and hopefully attending an interview, or two, or several. How do you get ready for this journey?
A professional informative workshop can provide you with the skills that you will need to ensure you are fully prepared.
Resume and Cover Letter Workshop
The Resume/Cover Letter Workshop will be an hour long, interactive exercise designed to give you the skills and knowledge you need to begin to create your own effective, professional and tailored Resume and Cover Letter, that will start you down the road to your new career.
This session will include:
- Resume formats, dos and don’ts, information to include, etc.
- The best format for your tailored Cover Letter
- Together, we will review a typical job advertisement and learn how to interpret it so you can tailor your Resume and Cover Letter to that advertisement.
- Exercises to help you sort through your own personal information to ensure you include only what’s relevant.
- You will begin the information gathering process to be added to your Resume/Cover Letter.
I will give you the skills to write your own resume to ensure that you are able to create this document without having to go back for help every time.
Of course, you’re asking, “Why would I have to get a second resume written if I’ve already hired someone to write one professional document for me?” Every time you apply for a new job, you need a new resume. Each resume must be targeted to each job for which you apply. If you apply for 15 different jobs, you should have 15 different resumes. And do you really want to hire someone to do that 15 different times for you? This workshop will give you the skills to write and tailor each resume to each specific job.
It’s important to remember the purpose of the Resume/Cover Letter. These documents are not designed to get you a job. They are designed to get you an interview. They are the first introduction you have to your perspective new employer. And you only get one chance to make a good first impression, so you have to ensure that you make it good.
Interview Techniques Workshop
The Interview Techniques Workshop is an hour long, interactive workshop to give you the tools and skills you need to prepare you for your upcoming Interview.
This session will include:
- A thorough understanding of the different types of interviews in which you may participate, outlining sample questions, ways to approach your responses, how to dress for success, etc.
- Tips on developing good interview skills, and how to deal with nerves
- Mock interview sessions to learn good habits and avoid bad ones
You often hear people tell you that you need to practice answering questions to get you ready for your interview. Practice, practice, practice, they say. But how do you know what sample questions you should be practicing, and who are you practicing with? Do they know what hiring managers are looking for?
In this workshop, you will have an opportunity to be the interviewee, and be able to receive expert feedback on your presentation. As well, you will be able to see an interview through the eyes of the interviewer, to give you a better feel of how things look from their perspective.
This session can also give you a sample of what it’s like to interview before a board or a panel of interviewers, and not just be in a one-on-one interview.
Whatever your job application challenges are, these workshops are designed to help you make the most of each opportunity for which you are provided. You can decide which of the two sessions you need, or you can attend both, and get the maximum benefit to ensure you are prepared for any part of the process.
I look forward to working with you to help you on the road to your new career.
